Job Summary
Work with a foreman and lineman on a crew tasked with transferring Telecom lines and removing utility poles. The work will include gathering and providing equipment to aerial lineman, rigging pole removal equipment, handling poles safely after removal, and backfilling the holes with material. This is the beginning step in this classification and is expected to progress into all aspects of these duties including but not limited to the Lineman/Operator positions.
Responsibilities
- Passes tools safely to line crew members and assists as a general helper on the ground.
- Assists line crew with removing poles and filling voided holes by using a shovel or pick-ax.
- Performs general clean-up of job sites following completion of work.
- Assists telecom crew lineman with lowering and raising tools or other heavy materials to team members working below or above.
- Operates hand tools as authorized or trained.
- Flags traffic to protect employees (when certified) and the public from potential harm or injury.
- May assist lineman as directed, using sledgehammers and pry-bars to break concrete or rocks.
- Qualified drivers may be required to drive a 3/4-ton or 1-ton pickup truck to the job site or to obtain supplies.
- Operate Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner: Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment, in accordance with company policies.
- Completes vehicle inspections and logs.
- Utilize and become proficient with tasks, tools, test equipment, and information that will enhance business results.
- Adhere to industry-specific, local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
- Know, understand, and follow company policy.
- Assists other Team personnel in the performance of their duties when requested to promote a Team approach to problem-solving.
- Must always comply with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices according to DRG policy or the customer’s special request.
- Report all personal & vehicle accidents/incidents immediately to supervisors, cooperate, and assist in the investigation.
- Assists with job site setup and clean-up as necessary.
- Operates construction equipment safely in a variety of urban and rural areas.
- Safely load equipment, secure load, transport, and unload construction equipment.
- Learning new skills and techniques on a continual basis and passing that on to others.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of the project. Job duties are subject to change as directed by team leadership.
Qualifications
- Requires good mechanical aptitude, heavy equipment operation preferred.
- Must possess great communication skills.
- Prior telecommunication training is a plus.
- Possess or have the ability to get a DOT medical card.
- Requires valid driver's license: CDL license preferred. Other combinations of education/experience may be considered.
- OSHA certification is a plus, but not required. Must be able to complete online OSHA and safety-related certifications
Additional Information
The ideal candidate would be comfortable with traveling from location to location. Candidates must be comfortable working full time with a minimum of 40 - 45 hours per week. Compensation based on experience. Continual training and development offered.
