Position Overview
The Underground Fiber Lineman/Foreman will specialize in the placement and maintenance of underground telecommunications infrastructure. This position involves operating construction equipment to create pathways for fiber optic lines, working in trenches and confined spaces, and ensuring the integrity and reliability of our network. This role is ideal for a hands-on individual who thrives in a dynamic field environment and is committed to safety and quality.
Job Duties
- Install, maintain, and repair underground fiber optic communication lines and systems.
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including trenchers, plows, and directional boring machines, to create pathways for conduit and cable.
- Pull and place fiber optic cables through conduits and in trenches.
- Work in confined spaces such as trenches, tunnels, and crawl spaces to access and work on telecommunication lines.
- Read and interpret blueprints, staking sheets, and engineering work orders to guide installation and repairs.
- Perform site restoration, including backfilling trenches and landscaping, upon project completion.
- Adhere to industry standards and local, state, and federal regulations, including familiarity with NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) codes to identify violations.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on all tools and equipment.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to company standards.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including as-built drawings.
- Travel (100%) for on-site job duty training, projects, or meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and work rules.
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
- A minimum of one year of experience in underground utility construction, preferably with fiber optics.
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- The ability to operate heavy machinery and power tools safely and effectively.
- Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and trenches.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Electric hazard identification, electric equipment identification, or communication equipment identification capability.
