Position Overview
Davey Resource Group Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Davey Tree Expert Company in Kent, Ohio, is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team in the field of Ecological Sciences. We have an opening for an entry-level Environmental Technician to support invasive species surveys in the Clermont County, Ohio area.
Job Duties
As an Environmental Technician, you will play a key role in our field data collection efforts. Your responsibilities will include identifying tree species, taking measurements, and using handheld computers to assess trees for the presence of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB). The data you collect will be vital to the United States Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Department of Agriculture in their efforts to detect and eliminate ALB infestations. You should also be flexible and able to assist our ecological restoration team with tasks such as pesticide applications, habitat restoration, native plant and seed installation, traditional landscape management, and operating heavy equipment as needed. Candidates with the ability to travel up to 25% of the time will be given preference.
This position requires working 100% outdoors in various weather conditions and across diverse terrains, including woodlots, wetlands, and fields, often involving extended periods of walking. We are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team. This is a full-time position, although the survey and restoration work schedule is subject to weather conditions. The position is based in Bethel, Ohio.
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a college graduate with at least a two-year degree in forestry, urban forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, biology, ecology, conservation, environmental science, or a
related field from an accredited institution. Strong tree identification skills are essential, and computer literacy is advantageous due to the use of handheld computers, pen-tablet computers, GPS equipment, and GIS and tree management software. A valid driver's license, a good driving record, and the ability to read and follow maps are also required.
