Position Overview
Our New York Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) office works with municipalities, businesses, and a variety of organizations to manage and protect the vital ecosystems known as urban forests that help filter water and air, control stormwater, conserve energy, and provide animal habitats. We are currently looking to add a dynamic Urban Forestry Inventory Arborist to our passionate team of environmental professionals.
Job Duties
The Urban Forestry Inventory Arborist will provide our government, commercial and not-for-profit clients with the services and solutions needed to efficiently and effectively manage trees and urban forests. This work will take you across many states, working outdoors on collaborative teams with the latest technology and using your knowledge, skills, and observations to collect field data for tree inventory projects. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct tree and forest inspections and assessments across a range of public and private landscapes
- Create and manage GIS asset datasets using field computers and survey tools
- Travel to project locations across the Northeast
- Prepare reports (arborist, preservation plans, environmental assessments)
- Support tree preservation, planting, maintenance and management plans
- Construction oversight and permitting support for urban forest preservation projects
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications:
An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily.
Required
- Valid US driver’s license
- Ability to work independently and responsibly
- Ability to travel throughout the NY / CT / NJ / PA metropolitan area
- Ability to hike outdoors in varied terrain and weather
- Ability to accommodate a varied schedule and diversity of work assignment
Preferred
- Experience with tree identification, tree assessment, GIS software use, or urban forestry management
- Focus on detail and quality in data management and writing
- Ability to take initiative to creatively resolve issues using available resources
- Interest in expanding skills in environmental consulting practices
- Familiarity with natural resource assessments, ecological restoration, regulatory permitting, GIS products, remote sensing, contractor supervision, project management, market research, or business development
- Certification as ISA Certified Arborist, ISA TRAQ, NYS Pesticide Technician / Applicator, or FAA Certified Remote Pilot
- Degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Biology, or other related discipline
