Job Duties
The position involves field data collection of tree and site information on hand-held computers regarding tree species identification, tree measurements and evaluation for the presence of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB). The collected data will be used by the United States Department of Agriculture and Clemson Department of Plant Industry (DPI) to detect all ALB infested trees and eradicate all ALB infestations. Candidates shall have the ability to work outside in all weather conditions and in rugged terrain year-round. The work requires walking for extended periods of time through woodlots, wetlands, commercial, and residential properties while performing tree data collection and surveys. Excellent communication skills, great attitude, and ability to work in a team environment are required. This is a full-time position; however, survey work is weather dependent
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications:
An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Applicants should be college graduates with a minimum of a two-year degree from an accredited University or College in forestry, urban forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, plant biology, conservation, or environmental science or related fields. Applicants must have excellent tree identification skills. Additionally, computer literacy is beneficial since the work involves the use of advanced technology equipment such as hand-held computers, pen-tablet computers, GPS equipment and GIS and tree management software. A valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to read/follow maps are required.
- Driver’s license and clean driving record are required, a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required by project.
- Natural resource consulting experience preferred.
