Position Overview

The Davey Tree Expert Company, has an opportunity in our corporate office in Kent, Ohio for a Desktop/Hardware Technician. Davey is a national leader in the tree care, utility line clearing and forestry consulting industries, with operations throughout the US and Canada.


The Desktop/Hardware Technician’s role at Davey Tree is to ensure the stable operation of the inhouse computer systems. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all client computer hardware and software locally at the corporate offices and in all remote offices. The person will also analyze and resolve end user software program and connectivity issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.

Job Duties

  • Manage and administer all desktop and operating systems and their corresponding or associated software.
  • Manage and ensure the integrity of host computers.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user desktops.
  • Install and configure collaboration/messaging and printing systems.
  • Install and configure mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc) and mobile wireless access points.
  • Ensure connectivity of all workstations (including thin clients).
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform client software improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases.

Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 2 years equivalent work experience.
  • Working technical knowledge of network, PC hardware, and platform current Windows operating systems. Additionally, Mac and Linux know is a plus.Support experience with Microsoft 365 (M365), Intune, and Tanium.
  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration.
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions in both technical and nontechnical language.
  • Highly self motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience working in a team oriented, collaborative environment.
