Ecosystem Technician - Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc.

Position Overview

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, is seeking an entry-level technician to join our Ecosystem Restoration team in Gainesville, Virginia.

Applicants should be interested in and understand wetland ecology and possess a strong work ethic with the desire to gain experience in different aspects of environmental consulting. This position involves a large amount of outdoor work with rigorous physical labor and may occasionally involve working long hours (40+) and/or traveling for several days at a time. The technician will also be expected to become a Virginia-Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator via a written test.

Primary Duties

• General maintenance and monitoring of wetland and stream mitigation sites
• Invasive species control 
• Groundwater well data collection and analysis
• Stormwater Facility Maintenance
• LID/LEED building and landscape maintenance
• Read and follow maps, navigate (in vehicle and on foot) through a variety of terrains
• Properly and safely drive, operate and maintain vehicle in a variety of terrains and surfaces (including ATVs and boats)

Qualifications

An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily.  The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required:
• driver’s license and clean driving record
• routinely lift items up to 50 lbs, occasionally lift items up to 75 lbs
• work safely in the outdoors under a wide range of conditions and weather types
• regularly travel regionally to support projects outside the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
• work independently and with a team

Preferred:
• Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field or equivalent experience in a similar position
• equipment operation experience (Bobcat, Excavator, Marooka, etc.)
• ATV and Boater Safety
• truck and trailer operation
• knowledge of laser level operation
• Commercial Pesticide License
• ISA Certified Arborist
• Virginia DEQ E&S Combined Administrator
• Professional Wetland Scientist or WPIT
• knowledge of wetland ecology and plant identification
• wetland and stream restoration experience
