Position Overview

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, is looking for an entry-level to mid-level Arborist/Urban Forestry Consultant to join our urban forestry team.

Job Duties

Primary Duties will include:

  • Provide urban forester/arborist staffing support to local governments, including:
    • Attend pre-construction meetings and conduct arborist site inspections for development sites
    • Prepare related reports
  • Prepare arborist reports, tree preservation/conservation plans, specifications, and details
  • Perform tree assessments using various methodologies including CTLA and TRAQ
  • Review civil, architectural, and landscape architecture plans, details, and specifications for conflicts with trees
  • Prepare invasive species management plans
  • Perform tree inventories




  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry from SAF accredited program (candidates with closely related degree may be considered)
  • Background in forestry, urban forestry, landscape construction, landscape architecture, or site design and construction
  • Experience in arboriculture; tree preservation; tree root patterns and morphology; and forest and landscape plant identification, including native and non-native trees and shrubs
  • Experience dealing with regulatory agencies and ability to work well with regulators
  • Understanding of the ecology of the Mid-Atlantic including native and non-native invasive species
  • Interest in working both indoors and outdoors in varying terrain and weather
  • Ability to work closely with design and construction management teams and local government
  • Willingness for occasional regional travel
  • ISA Certified Arborist or the ability to obtain within one month
  • TRAQ or the ability to obtain within two years 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines under limited supervision 
  • Ability to interpret and apply municipal tree regulations in a variety of jurisdictions



  • Familiarity with civil engineering; land clearing; site work; residential, commercial, and institutional construction and renovations; landscape design/construction; underground utilities construction and design
  • Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors
  • Technological aptitude and ability to quickly learn unfamiliar software and technology
  • GIS and/or CAD experience (or willingness/aptitude to learn)
  • Experience with GPS and survey concepts
