Position Overview

 

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, is a seeking a full-time entry to mid-level GIS Specialist. This a full-time position with our Gainesville, Virginia based Geospatial services team.

Primary Duties

 

• Generating custom and template maps for environmental and engineering clients and staff using ESRI ArcMap/ArcPro and AutoCAD software
• Conduct spatial analysis using statistical and/or geoprocessing tools
• Perform spatial data management, which may include data entry, data creation, data acquisition, importing, exporting, editing, geo-referencing, converting and scaling between projections, and editing vector and raster datasets
• Calculating drainage area divides, performing watershed analysis, historic map research and interpretation, aerial photograph interpretation, cultural/historic resources data management, and land cover classification
• Performing basic geoprocessing and working on existing python scripting
• Support the development of web and data collection applications using GIS tools including (but not limited to) ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Web App Builder, Dashboards, Field Maps, and Survey123

Qualifications

 

Educational Requirement:
A Degree in a GIS, Geography, Environmental Sciences, and/or a Certificate in GIS is preferred. 

 

Additional Requirements:
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Knowledge in the following programs:  ESRI ArcMap, ArcPro, AutoCAD, Survey123, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Powerpoint, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
• Training in remote sensing, image analysis and LiDAR processing
• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS online
• Desire to learn new skills related to GIS and AutoCAD
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
• Knowledge of cartographic principles and technology
• Ability to work independently and with a team
• Experience in wetland and/or environmental sciences a plus
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to complete short-term projects within tight deadlines
