Position Overview
We are seeking a Telecommunications Ground Hand to support our aerial line construction crews with ground-level operations. In this entry-level role, you will assist lineworkers with utility pole placements and removals, fiber optic installations, site setups, and heavy material handling. This role requires strong teamwork, the ability to follow detailed instructions, strict adherence to safety standards, and a willingness to work outdoors in variable weather conditions while traveling frequently across project locations.
Job Duties
- Lineworker Support: Pass tools, lower/raise equipment and heavy materials, and provide continuous ground support to lineworkers working at height or below ground.
- Fixture Installation: Assist crews with installing telecommunication fixtures, handling conduits/cables, and assisting with ground-level efforts.
- Pole & Infrastructure Operations: Assist line crews in placing and removing utility poles; backfill large post-removal ground holes using hand tools and shovels; assist in breaking concrete or rock around poles when necessary.
- Setup & Cleanup: Set up and break down work zones; maintain job site order and cleanliness throughout construction efforts.
- Public & Landowner Communication: Interact professionally with property owners and members of the public to ensure clear communication regarding site activities.
Qualifications
- Experience: Prior telecommunications line construction knowledge or industry training. Previous outdoor manual labor experience.
- Work Environment: Ability to work 100% outdoors in all types of weather (heat, rain, cold) and walk long distances over uneven outdoor terrain.
- License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; comfortable operating company vehicles.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to learn and operate handheld technology and mobile software.
- Adaptability: Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working solo or as part of a team in field environments.
Compensation
- Starting Rate: $20 - $25 / hour based on experience - performance-based increases
- Lodging: Hotel lodging provided by the company through CLC - no room sharing
- Meal Per Diem: $35 / day - must work minimum 6 productive hours
- Overtime: Time and a half after 40 hours / week
