Position Overview

The UAM Crew Member is responsible for performing manual labor, such as excavating holes, moving equipment, and maintaining job site cleanliness. This role can also encompass pole restoration tasks, such as installing steel trusses to reinforce the structural integrity of utility poles. This is an entry-level position, and individuals are expected to work as a team and take direction. Work assignments involve frequent travel, performing daily physical activity, and adherence to all safety standards. This role assists in the inspection, restoration, and enhancement of utility infrastructure. This position is an individual contributor role, working in a field environment.

Compensation Data

Starting Rate: $18/Hr
Candidates with Industry Experience have potential for $19-$20/Hr

  • Initial travel to the project's location is arranged and paid for by the company (return home travel is not paid for by the company)
  • Meal Per Diem in earned at $35/day (must work at least 6 productive hours to qualify)
  • Lodging is paid for by the company
  • Performance based raises and bonus opportunity

Job Duties

  • Excavating holes around utility poles as required for site preparation.
  • Backfilling holes upon completion of work.
  • Perform manual labor, including carrying and unloading equipment and supplies.
  • Perform strenuous physical activities including extensive walking, lifting, and carrying heavy equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order at job sites including clean-up tasks.
  • Professionally interact with landowners to ensure clear communication and understanding of site activities.
  • Work and function effectively as part of a team.
  • Conduct oneself professionally in public settings while representing Davey Resource Group.
  • React safely and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Report and respond timely and accurately to the supervisor.
  • Participate in company training as assigned.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (75-100%) as required by project demands.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and work rules.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in performing manual labor outdoors.
  • Ability to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods of time, including standing, reaching, and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, with the potential for heavier loads when working with multiple people.
  • Must be able to easily bend, reach, hold, and grasp.
  • Walk and carry equipment for distances up to 5-7 miles per day. 
  • Observe and respond to visual messages.  
  • Observe and respond to instructions, messages, and other oral communication. 

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Working in diverse environments such as roadways, fields, forests, remote, or urban areas.
  • Perform work in the presence of distractions and in public areas.
  • Standing, walking, and working on uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Working in noisy and potentially hazardous environments, requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Exposure to a variety of people, communities, and traffic conditions.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, and other environmental elements.
  • Long hours and occasional weekend work, depending on project demands.
  • Regularly traveling to job sites with frequent overnight accommodations in hotels or group housing.
