Position Overview

Davey Resource Group is looking for a qualified Burn Boss (RXB2) to join our growing team in MSP. The selected candidate will provide our government, utility, commercial, private and not-for-profit clients with the services and solutions needed to efficiently and effectively manage natural resources and comply with policies. 

Job Duties

The Environmental Scientist/Specialist will provide our government, utility, commercial and not for profit clients with the services and solutions needed to efficiently and effectively manage natural resources, comply with policies and obtain regulatory permits. Job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Understanding the contract needs and specifications of clients and their customers and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Inspect a wide range of habitats, both natural and disturbed, and assess their condition, health and functionality according to client specifications.
  • Identify local species, understand their typical characteristics and recognize common diseases and pests.
  • Train and mentor teammates.
  • Work more directly with clients.
  • Represent the company and the client at professional meetings.

Selected candidates will work independently and as part of a team. Applicants should be skilled in prescribed burn operations including writing burn plans, securing permits, and leading all field burn operations. The selected candidate will oversee a 3-6 person crew while completing prescribed burns. In addition the selected candidate may be involved with training employees in prescribed burn operations. When not completing prescribed burn operations the selected candidate will be working to complete additional projects related to natural resource restoration. 

The majority of work is outdoors, often in inclement weather and in rugged terrain, and may involve using equipment, such as spray rigs, backpack sprayers, augers, chain saws, mowers, etc. 

The majority of work is located in the Twin Cities Metro Area, but candidates should be willing to travel throughout the state of Minnesota.

Qualifications

Education and Required Qualifications:

An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily.  The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Prescribed burn experience and S130/S190 certification required
  • Type 2 Burn Boss qualifications
  • Possession of or be willing to obtain an Minnesota Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicators License is required.
  • Experience with operating heavy equipment, forestry mower, tractor, etc.
  • Identify invasive species across a range of habitats.
  • Skilled in chain saw, brush saw, and 4x4 ATV/UTV operation
  • Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to perform basic daily maintenance of equipment 
  • A degree in biology, botany, ecology, conservation, environmental science, or related fields. 

Desired qualifications:

  • Ability to read construction plans and specifications to execute tasks and assign work to crew members
  • 2+ years experience operating heavy equipment
  • CDL Class A Driver or ability to obtain a CDL 
     

Additional Information

Hours: 

  • 40-50 hours per week, Monday-Friday with some Saturdays optional.
  • Starting hourly wage: $25 - $27 per hour based on experience.
  • Start dates flexible, spring 2025.
