Position Overview

The Davey Tree Expert Company’s Claims Department located in Kent, Ohio has an exciting opportunity for a claims administrator.  The Company has U.S. and Canadian operations in more than 47 states and five provinces and provides a variety of tree care, grounds maintenance and consulting services for the residential, utility, commercial, and government markets. Founded in 1880, the Company has been employee-owned for 40 years and has more than 10,000 employees.

The claims administrator intakes work injury and property and casualty claims, reviews the claims, reports the claims to our third-party administrator representatives, and ensures the timely and appropriate handling of claims to resolution.  The claims administrator has daily interaction with a variety of stakeholders, including injured workers, third-party claimants, medical providers, Company management, and third-party administrator representatives.  Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships with the claims team and various stakeholders. 

Job Duties

 

  • Process incident reports, conduct initial evaluation of claims;
  • Investigate claims by gathering and organizing additional information, supporting documents, photographs, statements, etc. to facilitate claim management;
  • Evaluate each incident/claim to determine applicable coverage and report/tender claims to third-party administrator, insurance carrier, and/or other third-parties;
  • Accurately and completely document claim information and maintain electronic file related to claims;
  • Work closely with third-party administrator representatives and outside legal counsel to monitor the progression of claims to final resolution;
  • Act as a liaison among all interested parties to ensure claims are handled appropriately; and
  • Work with stakeholders and third-party administrator representatives to identify solutions for resolution of claims. 

Qualifications

 

  • Associate degree or equivalent education and/or work experience
  • Previous experience with workers’ compensation or general claims handling preferred
  • Understanding of insurance claims process and litigation process
  • Ability to read and interpret documents (e.g., accident forms, medical/legal documents, etc.)
  • Microsoft suite experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent critical thinking and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment; ability to make clear reasoned recommendations
  • Good team player, calm under pressure
  • Ability to manage and maintain sensitive information with strict confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask; ability to handle multiple open claims, incoming claims, and track and meet schedule of competing priorities and deadlines
