Position Overview

Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Director of Talent Acquisition will lead a team of recruiting professionals that support high volume talent acquisition for a geographically distributed service industry technical workforce which recruits, in collaboration with the business, up to 6,000+ individuals annually.  


The Davey Tree Expert Company is decentralized throughout North America with various business segments ranging from utility solutions (including vegetation and asset management) to residential and commercial landscaping, grounds management, and tree care services.  The Company also provides consulting services in the environmental consulting and green industry.


The Director of Talent Acquisition will be responsible for the development and implementation of the overall talent acquisition strategy for The Company’s US operations.  This includes the creation of supporting operational processes which will ensure positive candidate and hiring manager experiences, and the assessment and enhancement of recruiting technology resources. 


The successful candidate will drive business results through the implementation of consistent sourcing, selection, marketing, interview strategies and processes designed to attract top talent to the business.

Job Duties

  • Lead the development of a comprehensive talent acquisition strategy and recruitment of over 6,000+ positions annually
  • Evaluate recruiting efforts to continually improve the process and quality of talent hired into the organization
  • Lead, coach, and develop a geographically dispersed talent acquisition team to drive exceptional results
  • Partner with corporate communications to create branding, media, digital marketing and social networking campaigns and solutions that support the Company’s employment brand and value proposition
  • Partner with Human Resources and key business leaders in developing sourcing plans and determining hiring requirements
  • Accountable for monitoring, creating, and providing functional recruiting metrics and reports, trend analysis, and contextualizing issues for the organization based on company analytics
  • Provide leadership on Talent Acquisition projects and create implementation programs for the organization
  • Partner with the Director of Talent Development to meet talent goals for special populations including high schools, colleges, career and technical education programs, internships, externships, apprenticeships, and external pre-employment workforce development programs
  • Lead all communication, recruiting best practices, assessment of protocols and drive change management for the organization in the Talent Acquisition area
  • Provide leadership guidance and oversight to the screening and selection processes in evaluating potential candidates 
  • Evaluate recruiting resources and recommend solutions that would better suit the high volume recruiting demands of the organization
  • Partner with the HRIS administration team to optimize, create and utilize appropriate technology to support sourcing workflows
  • Represent the Company in relationships with external vendors that impact recruitment and sourcing strategies, but especially Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, and LinkedIn. Performs necessary analysis of sourcing results and negotiate contracts as appropriate and in a fiscally responsible manner
  • Understands the Company’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) goals and initiate programs that attract candidates that will meet those objectives
  • Oversee compliance of all regulations that impact the hiring and selection process
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Progressive experience in HR & Talent Acquisition roles in a large business with multiple business verticals 
  • Demonstrated success in leading, coaching, and developing teams
  • Experience working in cloud-based applicant tracking systems to attract and hire talent, with preference given to individuals with prior experience using SAP SuccessFactors  
  • Experience in developing digital recruitment campaigns and employer branding
  • Ability to work collaboratively with hiring managers at all levels of the organization and the ability to influence senior leadership
  • Expert knowledge of recruitment trends and technologies
  • Expert knowledge of staffing and employment practices
  • Ability to analyze business data related to our workforce resources and interpret data to build a business case
  • Accountable for building and following an annual budget in partnership with Human Resources leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and professionally in positive and negative situations, including speaking publicly
  • Professional demeanor and ability to manage situations in a constructive and positive manner
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications (i.e., word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Proven business planning and forecasting skills
  • Demonstrated skills in comprehensive workforce planning
  • Ability to effectively manage large and complex projects
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, and suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Preference given to bilingual candidates speaking English and Spanish

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field 
  • 10+ years of recruiting/talent sourcing experience  
  • 5+ years of management experience  
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Salary / Benefits
