Position Overview
We are looking for strong candidates for a part-time hourly internship position in our Internal Audit Department for the Spring or Summer of this year. Internal Audit supports the business by providing independent, objective assurance and consulting services guided by a philosophy of adding value to improve Davey’s operations. This candidate would be completing at least their junior year by this summer and have completed some coursework in accounting (as part of the business school/college of business). Graduate-level candidates are welcome to apply.
This internship seeks to expose the candidate to several aspects of Internal Audit, such as work related to Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance through testing of operating effectiveness of key controls, work related to performing operational, financial and compliance-related audits in line with the internal audit plan as well as analyzing transactional data to draw conclusions. Special projects may arise on an as needed basis to support management.
Pay is commensurate with experience and academic progress (year of the student).
Job Duties
Primary duties would be to help with Davey’s Internal Audit team on the following:
- Creating and updating risk assessments and process documentation
- Testing design and operating effectiveness of internal controls related to financial reporting
- Analyzing and evaluating internal control matters for assessment
- Documenting suggestions for improvements in internal control
- Compiling and analyzing data to identify trends, variances, and inconsistencies
- Assisting in external auditor requests
- Assisting in conducting annual physical inventory counts at shop/warehouse locations
- Assisting in special projects or other duties as need arises and time permits
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Education – Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, in Junior year of coursework
- Skills – Strong PC abilities and literacy in Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, Visio and Outlook
- Professionalism
- Be detail-oriented and have a working understanding of financial and managerial accounting concepts
- Working understanding of Sarbanes Oxley (Sections 302 and 404) compliance
- Ability to work independently or in a team setting
- Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
- Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions
