Position Overview
The Legal Assistant is responsible for providing support to the General Counsel, assisting with corporate documentation requirements, gathering information for specific litigation matters, organizing and tracking contract reviews, performing services in connection with commercial contracts, helping monitor Davey Tree’s Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio, and assisting the legal team with general administrative duties. Works under general supervision.

The Legal Assistant is an exempt, full-time employee position.
Job Duties
- Provide high-level executive administrative assistance to the General Counsel in legal and business matters, ensuring smooth operations and effective communication.*
- Assist in organizing and tracking corporate governance requirements, including internal and external governance documents and entity structure management.*
- Support the improvement of the contract review process by organizing and facilitating its various stages, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.*
- Act as administrator, process owner, and employee trainer for online contract management system.*
- Provide administrative support for commercial transactions, including acquisitions, lien waiver processing, and the IP portfolio.*
- Facilitate communications between legal department, support teams, service lines, and external clients, fostering collaboration and information exchange.*
- Occasionally assist with legal research and factual investigations, contributing to the preparation of well-informed strategies and decisions.*
- Collaborate with the legal department to manage external legal counsel, including assisting with billing processing and tracking.*
- Manage and monitor deadlines, ensuring timely compliance and action.*
- Assist with the management of legal files and the filing of legal documents.*
- Draft legal correspondence, maintaining accuracy and professionalism in communication.*
- Coordinate travel for the legal department.
- Handle special projects, as assigned.

Skills
- Adept at assisting and working with business partners to devise practical solutions to achieve business goals.
- Interest in and understanding of general legal matters and terms.
- Ability to proofread typed material for grammatical, typographical, and spelling errors.
- Learn, understand, and manage online contract management systems.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priority items and track extensive detail.
- Ability to establish and maintain cordial and effective relationships with in-house clients and work effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced working environment and handle stressful situations.
- Proactive and confident to work independently, while maintaining strong teamwork skills.
- Ability to recognize and react appropriately to emergency situations.
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, including the ability to be flexible with others, display tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
- Maintain the integrity of confidential and sensitive information.
Qualifications
- Required: Demonstrated PC skills and experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and other computer or software programs.
- Preferred: Advanced knowledge of Excel formulas and spreadsheets.
- Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree.
- Preferred: Five or more years of relevant experience.
