Environmental Compliance Program Coordinator - Herbicide

Position Overview

We are currently looking to add a dynamic UVM Specialist to our passionate team of environmental professionals.  

Job Duties

Inspect distribution utility right-of-ways and access to Right-of-Way (ROW) areas, for compliance with state clearance standards. Identify needed tree and brush control work and provide information to line-clearance crews. Document work using hand-held computer. Notify property owners of pending work on their property. Audit work completed by contractors. Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues. Special projects as assigned. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and storms as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications:

 An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily.  The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Previous experience successfully working as Utility Vegetation Management Technician or equivalent experience in the industry will be required.
  • Professional or Collegiate Practical Tree Work Experience (including Collegiate Climbing Classes, Forestry Club Operations, Production Climber, Groundsman, or Lift Operator, etc).
  • Proficiency with local Tree Identification and Tree Physiology.
  • ISA Certified Arborist or ability to obtain in 6-12 months. Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License.
  • Current Driver’s License and Driving Record in good standing.
  • Proficient working knowledge of computers. Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint.

The Davey Resource Group (DRG) is currently hiring an Environmental Compliance Program Coordinator to work with a major electric transmission system and coordinate with environmental contractors to address client vegetation management needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing, conducting, and ensuring annual environmental orientation and training completion for DRG employees

  • Implementing, maintaining, evaluating, and investigating the effectiveness of the Environmental Compliance Plan

  • Providing technical knowledge and explaining environmental regulations

  • Conveying Environmental Handbook expectations, permit measures, standard environmental requirements, and site-specific environmental requirements to DRG employees

  • Interfacing with SCE regarding environmental performance, incident investigation and general

  communications, orientations, and resources associated with environmental compliance

  • Performing field observations to assess DRG procedures and controls are meeting the

environmental compliance requirements

  • Preparing supplemental environmental training and awareness content to support environmental compliance refreshers, knowledge-checks, sharing lessons-learned, etc.

  • Supporting schedulers and applicators with providing guidance, coordination with Utility Clients, and assurance that work is scheduled with required environmental pre-activity surveys, monitors, agency notifications, and other environmental requirements

  • Adhere to all federal, state and safety best management practices for vegetation management adjacent to energized facilities

  • Safely operate 4x4 vehicle

  • Up to 25% overnight travel required



 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Two or four year degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or related field

Or

  • Three years of experience in environmental compliance and auditing

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience developing and conducting training programs

  • Ability to conduct biological surveys for bird, insect, mammal, and reptile communities

  • Ability to identify riparian areas and watersheds

  • Preferred one year experience working around high voltage electrical utility power systems

  • Preferred one year experience in herbicide applications or weed control and vegetation removal

  • Ability to identify various biological communities within California 

  • Knowledge of safety requirements regarding herbicide application/vegetation removal practices around substations, communication sites, utility Right of Way and near high voltage equipment

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding chemical applications

  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA vegetation safety standards, FAC-003 requirements, FERC/NERC Standards and requirements as they relate to the transmission utility industry.
