Position Overview

The UAM Data Operations Team requires a skilled Data Analyst / SQL Developer to assist with managing, analyzing, and transforming data into meaningful insights.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing efficient SQL queries, maintaining datasets and databases, creating analytical reports, and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization.  This role requires a blend of technical development skills and analytical thinking.  The position reports to the Senior Data Scientist, under the direction of the Data Operations team leader.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, write, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and scripts for use in both data lake (BigQuery) and relational database platforms (SQL Server).

  • Develop and maintain ETL processes to integrate and transform data from multiple sources.

  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and performance across databases and other data environments.

  • Assist with database maintenance, schema design, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.

  • Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations using BI tools (Looker, Power BI).

  • Translate business requirements into analytical solutions, datasets, and data models.

  • Prepare and present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis to support ongoing business needs.

  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.

  • Work closely with application development, operations, finance, and business teams to understand data needs.

  • Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives and performance tracking.

  • Document data flows, business rules, queries, and reporting logic for internal knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

Skills We’re Seeking: 

  • Strong proficiency in SQL (e.g., complex JOINs, window functions, CTEs, indexing).

  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.

  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools or processes (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, etc.).

  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (Looker, Power BI, or Tableau).

  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, advanced formulas).

  • Understanding of data modeling concepts (star schema, normalization, fact/dimension tables).

  • Familiarity with at least one programming language used in data analysis (Python or R preferred).

  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.

Compensation Data

This is a non-exempt, full-time position with a base range of $65,000 - $72,000, in addition to an annual performance bonus up to 10-15%.

Education & Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
•    2+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, SQL Developer, or in a similar data-focused role.
•    Experience with BI dashboards, data modeling, and SQL development is required.
•    Certifications in data analytics, SQL, cloud technologies, or BI tools are a plus.
