Position Overview
We are currently looking to add a dynamic UVM Technician to our passionate team of environmental professionals.
Job Duties
-
Work under the guidance of the California Forest Practice Rules on forestry projects
-
Work with a variety of clients from private land owners to major electric/gas utilities, addressing vegetation and forest management needs
-
Under the supervision of an RPF, develop treatment plans for fuel reduction and forest management projects
-
As part of an interdisciplinary team, assist with forest management assessments through the preparation of all levels of CEQA documents
-
Oversee the implementation of defensible space projects around homes, communities, and utility facilities
-
Conduct field surveys for plan support and CEQA or Forest Practice Rules compliance, including timber cruising, biological surveys, nesting bird surveys, and archaeological surveys as qualified

Oversee timber harvest and fuel reduction projects in the field as the RPF Supervised Designee
-
Communicate and schedule work plans internally and with client daily
-
Be a direct liaison between client and contracted services
-
Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work site
-
Collect and enter data on handheld devices, follow maps, and use GPS navigation
-
Communicate with landowners regarding work on or near their property
-
Assess all terrain, habitat, and environmental conditions
-
Coordinate with project managers, planners, and vegetation crews
-
Manage workloads and work schedules to meet required deadlines
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Possession of a A.S, B.S., or M.S. in Forestry, Forest Ecology, Wildland Fire Science/ Ecology, Forest and Natural Resource Management
-
Career path to become a Registered Professional Forester in California
-
Basic forestry skills and knowledge, including timber marking, mensuration, forest management, logging, silviculture, and timber harvest planning.

Knowledge of physical ecosystem attributes, including geology, topography, soils, watershed functions (including hydrology and water quality), and relevant classification systems.

Clean DMV driving record and ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle on rough roads
-
Embraces an outdoor and independent work environment
-
Work safely and effectively in a variety of outdoor conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, smoke, and other inclement weather commonly encountered during forestry field operations. Has ability to work and hike in rugged terrain and inclement weather
-
Thrives on adaptation, continual learning and training and is detail oriented
-
Is a great communicator and team player
-
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time on projects throughout the West
