Position Overview

The Construction Coordinator oversees electric and/or communication construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards. This role involves coordinating between electric pole owners, subcontractors, and engineering stakeholders, while tracking project progress and managing financial aspects. Key tasks include reviewing designs, conducting post-construction inspections, managing required permits, updating project tracking, generating material reservations, and closing out projects in the work request software. This role ensures smooth project execution and promotes safety and professionalism throughout the process. This position is an individual contributor role, working in an office, remote, and/or field settings.

Job Duties

  • Partners closely with the Project Manager or Account Manager to deliver client outcomes by attending meetings, capturing action items, following up on project issues, facilitating change management, organizing, and updating project deliverables, and reporting.*

  • Directly supervises field crews, forepersons, groundhands, flaggers, and or subcontractor coordination.*

  • Collaborates with field operations, other managers, and support staff to deliver successful projects.*

  • Works directly with the Project Manager to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.*

  • Supports the onboarding and training of new team members. *

  • Responsible for ensuring crews operate with safety, quality, and production standards.

  • Provides production reports for project management. *

  • Conducts onsite field visits to support field teams and give performance feedback.

  • Partners with the Safety Team to support safety programs and initiatives.

  • Ensures the proper care and maintenance of all assigned vehicles and equipment, including regular inspections, maintenance checks, and prompt reporting of any issues to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance personnel.

  • Conduct oneself professionally in public settings while representing the company.

  • Utilize technology, including iPads, cameras, and GIS software, for accurate data collection and

  • documentation in the field.

  • Reacts safely and appropriately in emergency situations.

  • Reports and responds timely and accurately to their supervisor.

  • Participates in employee and professional training events as assigned.

  • Travels (up to 75%) for on-site job duty training, projects, or meetings.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and work rules.

Qualifications

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Required: High-school diploma with a minimum of 2 years of electric utility or telecommunications industry experience. 

  • Required: Demonstrated understanding of utility infrastructure underground and/or aerial construction, safety standards, and client requirements. 

  • Required: Good interpersonal and communication skills for effective team collaboration and property owner interactions. 

  • Required: Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, learn new skills, and contribute positively to a team environment. Exhibits a willingness to learn and grow within the role.

  • Required: Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively with direct supervision. 

  • Required: Ability to identify and assist in resolving common field-level problems and apply understanding to carry out detailed instructions. 

  • Required: Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks. 

  • Required:  Electric hazard identification, electric equipment identification, or communication equipment identification capability.

 

  • Preferred: Associates' or Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field from an accredited college or university.

  • Preferred: Understanding of operations, processes, and standards in the utility industry or related field. 

  • Preferred: Understanding of Google Workspace.  

  • Preferred: 2+ years of prior electric utility or telecommunications industry experience.

Preferred: OSHA 1910.269 qualified training is preferred but will be provided as required by the project (including, but not limited to, use and testing of rubber insulating gloves, electric meter change out, use of insulated measuring sticks, open enclosure methodology, and use of phasing tools).

 
 

Physical Requirements:

  • Write, type, file, and organize documents and information.

  • Observe and respond to visual messages. 

  • Observe and respond to instructions, messages, and other oral communication.

  • Perform work in the presence of distractions and in public areas.

  • Observe and judge the distance and size of objects.

  • Walk and carry equipment weighing up to 20 pounds for distances up to 5 miles per day.

  • Perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods, including standing, reaching, and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, with the potential for heavier loads when working with multiple people. 

  • Must be able to bend, reach, hold, and grasp.

  • Move objects weighing up to 60 pounds occasionally.

  • Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind. 

  • Working in diverse environments such as roadways, fields, forests, remote, or urban areas. 

  • Noise level and environmental changes in the work environment. 

  • Perform work in the presence of distractions and in public areas.

  • Outdoor weather conditions include extreme cold, extreme heat, humidity, rain, snow, ice.

  • Working in noisy and potentially hazardous environments requires adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). 

  • Exposure to dust, dirt, and other environmental elements. 

  • Risk of electrical shock.

  • Uneven terrain while walking.

  • Exposure to a variety of vegetation, animals, and insects.

  • Time spent in vehicles and/or construction heavy-duty equipment 

  • Exposure to a variety of people, communities, and traffic conditions.

  • Regularly traveling to multiple job sites with frequent overnight accommodations in hotels.
