Position Overview
As a Consulting Arborist you will be called upon to provide your knowledge and experience to provide in-depth consultative services across several different client groups from individual homeowners to Architects, Builders/Construction companies, larger utility clients, and municipalities.
The pay rate for this position is $41.14- $47.40.
Job Duties
- Administer and participate in the efficient care, maintenance and growth of the City’s urban forests by fielding, recording and scheduling service requests, conducting visual tree risk assessments on all city trees annually and in accordance with ISA regulations, small tree pruning, small removals, preparing the annual tree planting program, and applying for tree planting grants as required.
- Assist with the preparation and evaluation of tenders including tree removal, trimming and annual tree planting.
- Planning and organizing contractor work, coordinating contract start-up upon bid award, inspecting contracted work, completing necessary reports/documentation of contracted services including health and safety compliance.
- Consult and provide diagnosis /recommendations on the health of trees as a result of insects, diseases and fungi.
- Responsible for reviewing tree planting plans for new subdivisions and industrial developments insuring proper species selection.
- Identify and provide methods of control for pests and invasive species directly affecting the Urban Forestry canopy.
- Travel to various locations within a specified region providing consulting services.
- Complete Arborist Reports.
- Develop Tree Management Plans.
- Create detailed Tree Risk Assessments for clients.
- Conduct or assist with Tree Inventories.
Qualifications
- Required - A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in Urban Forestry or Horticulture related discipline at the municipal level.
- Certified Arborist.
- TRAQ Certification is preferred.
- Strong Tree Identification skills.
- Knowledge of the construction industry is an asset.
- Valid provincial driver’s license.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and also possess the willingness to learn and progress.
